Do’s and Don’ts of Fall Jewelry Wearing

Do’s and Don’ts of Fall Jewelry Wearing

Wearing jewelry is a fantastic and economical way to add style and versatility to your look.  You can update your look and stay “on trend” without shelling out a small fortune for new clothes every season.  As you build your jewelry wardrobe, here are a few Do’s and Don’ts to keep in mind when it comes to your baubles.

DO layer your pieces to create a completely unique style.  Double up a long necklace or wear a short, delicate chain with a longer pendant.  Consider layering your bracelets on your wrist.

DO remember the rule of Last On and First Off.  Your jewelry will last longer and look better if you avoid getting makeup, soaps and perfumes on them.  Your clothes will also thank you for not getting them caught on earrings and bulky rings.

DON’T be afraid of following trends like mixing metals.  The rule used to be to wear all silver or all gold, but now the opposite is a hot trend.  If you’re still hesitant, start with a piece that incorporates the mixed metals already, like Stella & Dot’s Riviera Pendant Necklace (shown below).

DON’T overwhelm your look with too many statement pieces.  Pair a statement necklace with a simple pair of studs or wear a simple chain with a pair of statement earrings and cocktail ring.  That way, your ears and neck won’t be competing for attention.

DO care for your jewelry properly.  Proper care and storage will help protect your investment and help it last longer.  Buy a polishing cloth and use it regularly to keep the shine on your jewels.  Store chains so they won’t tangle, I like to use a shadowbox to hang my necklaces and bracelets.  Avoid exposing your pieces to harsh chemicals, especially chlorine at the pool.

DON’T shy away from the colorblocking trend.  Use it to “pop” the color of statement pieces.  This turquoise necklace really pops with the bright yellow blazer.

DO have outfits or occasions in mind when purchasing a new piece for your jewelry wardrobe.  It will help guide you when choosing your pieces and ensure you choose something you will actually wear.

DON’T forget to finish the look.  When you find the perfect necklace, think about what earrings, bracelet or ring will compliment it.  Ask your Stylist for recommendations.
