You Can Dance Right Through Your Life

You Can Dance Right Through Your Life

If you don’t know that title is from the movie Flashdance then we can’t be friends.

Once upon a time, Zoe and I went to a free concert in McLean Central Park. The series of lunch time concerts dubbed “Jammin Juniors” had a recommended age range of 2-5 years old.

Zoe was 11 months, 2 weeks, and 6 days old.

Age limits, ranges, and suggestions – they are so mysterious to me. Even though sometimes I am an avid rule breaker, age recommendations paralyze me. I’m convinced she would love something, then see “for ages 3 and up”, and give up.

I am always delighted when Zoe encounters something she enjoys even though I thought she was too young to participate. I love being wrong when it comes to finding something that makes her happy.

Oh you like calamari? Good thing daddy didn’t listen to me when I said it was ridiculous to feed that to you.

For every one thing I get to pat myself on the back for exposing her to, I’m sure there are 10 others that she misses out on simply because I decide she’s not the right age.

I had all but given up on the Jammin Juniors concert being a success.

First Zoe sat in the grass for 15 minutes staring at a dog.

Then, she ate some flowers…

But then, THEN…She did a little bop.

“Well I hear the music, close my eyes, feel the rhythm.”
