New Disney Store at Tyson’s Corner
April 21, 2012
by Bryana Trupo, Adventures with Little Bear
Saturday marked a big day for Northern Virginia’s Mickey Mouse fans: the opening of the brand new, revamped Disney Store in Tysons Corner Center. The store opening drew quite a crowd, those waiting to see the improved store, and, of course, to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse. My family and I headed over to the store for the inaugural events, and we were far from disappointed! The entire place is quite interactive, colorful, and exciting. Store representatives are quoted as saying that they hope it will deliver “the best 30 minutes of a child’s day.” Listed below are some of our favorite features that are designed to entertain and delight your little Disney lover:
Disney Princess Castle with Magic Mirror: I’m telling the truth when I say that this even amazed the grown-ups—the mirror inside the castle is interactive. When a product from a particular princess is waved in front of the mirror, that princess appears with a cute little message. My “almost” two-year old was really enthralled with this. Um, and, I was pretty into it too!
Magical Trees & Custom Skyline: The “trees” throughout the store have animation projected onto them that changes with the season. For example, today, we saw cherry blossoms and baby animals. as well as many of our favorite characters. The skyline of the store features scenes from DC, Maryland, and VA. A nice employee (they were all very excited and helpful) told me that there are fireworks to begin each day and clouds that roll in to end the evening. A sweet little touch to show the store’s personality!
Disney Store Theatre: The back of the store featured an activity area with a place for kids to color and a big movie screen. Guests are able to use a touch screen to choose from over 50 Disney video clips. Disney will also host various activities in this area, including story telling and trivia games. We will definitely keep an eye out for that storytelling!
There are many more interesting tidbits the store had to offer. I do recommend checking it out, maybe on a quiet weekday if you have a very small kiddo, as the crowd could be potentially overwhelming. However, I’m not sure you’ll be able to make it out of the store without picking up something adorable. We did notice, though, that the prices weren’t too steep. Well done, Disney!
